SUMMARY:Webinar for Media and PR Professionals: "One Health" in Central Asia
DESCRIPTION:How can we communicate effectively during epidemiological and environmental threats\, counter disinformation\, and foster constructive dialogue between state agencies and the media? \nWe invite journalists\, editors\, press officers\, and communications specialists to explore real-world crisis case studies alongside leading international experts. \n·        Date: October 15\, 2026 \n·        Time: 10:00 – 12:00 (Astana / Almaty time\, GMT+5) \n·        Format: Online (Zoom) \n·        Join link: Join Zoom Meeting \nProgram Overview\nThe webinar is dedicated to the core principles of crisis communication viewed through the lens of the “One Health” approach. \nThe opening session will introduce participants to globally recognized risk management frameworks. Key topics include Peter Sandman’s Risk Communication Model—designed to strike a sound balance between actual hazard and public outrage—as well as the CDC’s six core principles of crisis and emergency risk communication (CERC)\, strategies for countering infodemics\, fact-checking\, and the rapid mitigation of rumors. \nAleksey Chistodarskiy—a senior communications expert with 20 years of experience who has advised UNDP leadership on reputation risk management and strategic positioning—will address reputation management amid compounding crises. Drawing on hands-on UNDP experience\, he will explore communication during concurrent emergencies: why standard public health messaging fails during economic downturns or declining institutional trust\, how to engage skeptical audiences\, and how to effectively recalibrate communication channels. \nAynur Baigozha—publisher of Aleminform.kz and Sportinform.kz and founder of the “PR room” media community—will share practical insights on media relations. Her session will focus on building robust partnerships between newsrooms and press services\, emphasizing sustainable\, constructive\, and mutually beneficial cooperation between journalists and communications specialists. \nThe session will conclude with an interactive workshop on intersectoral coordination in emergencies. In an open discussion format\, participants will identify actionable approaches to synchronizing official communications across public health\, veterinary\, and environmental sectors\, ensuring consistency and reinforcing public trust during critical moments. \nSpecial Opportunity for Participants\nThe most engaged participants and contributors of actionable proposals from Central Asian countries will receive a full fellowship (covering travel and accommodation) to attend the international in-person conference: \n“Rational Use of Antimicrobials to Contain Antimicrobial Resistance: A One Health Approach” \nDate: November 19\, 2026 \nVenue: Nazarbayev University School of Medicine (Astana\, Kazakhstan) \nThe conference aims to establish a regional\, cross-sectoral platform to address actionable solutions for the prevention and containment of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across Central Asia through the “One Health” framework. \nThe event is organized by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) under the Regional One Health Framework for Action in Central Asia\, with financial support from the World Bank and the Pandemic Fund. \nShoira Toirova PR – Specialist\, One Health Program
