“GLACIERS ARE VALUABLE ESTATE OF TAJIKISTAN”. Republican scientific conference was held in the National Museum

DUSHANBE, 27.02.2025 /NIAT “Khovar”/. In honor of the announcement of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Conservation and World Glacier Day, on March 21, the National Museum of Tajikistan hosted a republican scientific conference entitled “Glaciers – a valuable asset of Tajikistan”, NIAT “Khovar” reports with reference to the National Museum of Tajikistan.

During the scientific conference, the director of the National Museum Zafarsho Ibrohimzod, scientists and specialists from the Center for the Study of Glaciers of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the Center for Glaciology of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Tajik National University, and the Tajik State Pedagogical University named after S. Aini spoke.

Scientists and researchers presented reports on the topics of “Tajikistan – a pioneer in the study of glaciers in the world”, “Preservation of glaciers – salvation of humanity”, “Implementation in practice of the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation in the field of water and climate”, “Glaciers – the main source of drinking water” and “Reflection of the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, respected Emomali Rahmon, in the field of water and protection of glaciers in the National Museum”.

After the completion of the republican scientific conference “Glaciers – a valuable asset of Tajikistan”, its participants visited the hall “Global initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of water and glacier conservation” in the National Museum.

    

It should be noted that on December 14, 2022, the United Nations General Assembly, during its 77th session, adopted the resolution “2025 – International Year of Glacier Conservation”, put forward by the Republic of Tajikistan, with the support of 153 United Nations Member States. The proposal of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon, was supported by the United Nations Member States.

In accordance with this resolution, March 21 was declared World Glacier Day and 2025 was declared the International Year of Glacier Conservation. An International Trust Fund for Glacier Conservation was also established at the United Nations.

At the same time, in May 2025, an International Conference on Glacier Conservation will be held in Dushanbe.
