Tashkent, Uzbekistan – On February 26-27, CAREC conducted two national training sessions on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) for Uzbekistan’s water management organizations in Tashkent. The training was held as part of the project “Climate-responsive and gender-sensitive basin management” (hereinafter – the Project).

The Project is part of the Regional Program “Climate-Sensitive Water Resources Management in Central Asia”, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

A total of 32 senior and mid-level specialists from Uzbekistan’s water management organizations participated in the training sessions. The training sessions are part of broader efforts to strengthen the capacity of basin organizations in Central Asian countries.

The training focused on basin planning, institutional and legal aspects of IWRM, assessment of Uzbekistan’s water resources and their sectoral distribution, methods of water accounting and distribution, as well as water-saving technologies.

A separate session was dedicated to an inclusive approach in basin planning to ensure effective water resource management while considering the interests of all stakeholders.

“We express our gratitude to CAREC for organizing such an important and informative event, as well as for the high level of professionalism demonstrated by the organizers. We would like to highlight the excellent organization, insightful presentations, and constructive working atmosphere. We look forward to further fruitful cooperation!” emphasized Aibek Urazimbetov, First Deputy Minister of Water Management of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

“The training was organized at a high level and covered pressing issues of water resource management. We gained a wealth of new knowledge that will be helpful in our future work. The topics discussed provided a deeper understanding of modern approaches to water management,” noted Mamajan Saparova, an engineer in the water distribution department of the Amu Darya Basin Water Organization.

The training sessions concluded with a discussion and the awarding of certificates to participants.
