Dear colleagues,
The Transatlantic Dialogue on extreme heat and health is the first in a series of a joint initiative by WHO Regional Office for Europe, the Pan American Health Organization, and the United States Department of Health and Human Services. This virtual event aims to foster collaboration and the exchange of experiences among Member States across the Atlantic, focusing on the critical issue of extreme heat and health.
The event aims to contribute to discussions on strengthening health system and community resilience against heatwaves and extreme heat. This platform will provide input to develop a summary for policy-makers on different approaches and opportunities to tackle extreme heat in Member States on both sides of the Atlantic.
An overview of the programme is as follows:
- Opening remarks
- Session 1: What we know and why it matters
- Session 2: How are we addressing the challenges
This will include national examples from Argentina, Canada, Germany, Jamaica, North Macedonia and Spain. - Session 3: Lessons learned and opportunities
- Session 4: Call to action and way forward
- Closing remarks
The event will be hosted virtually on Zoom on Tuesday, 2 July 2024 from 15:00–18:00 CEST.
