The REAP project, funded by the European Union SWITCH ASIA, team presented examples of implemented sustainable production and consumption practices (SCP) at the enterprises participating in the project. These examples show that it is possible to achieve resource savings with low-cost or no cost investments.

One example is a dairy company in Fergana, Uzbekistan. Losses of raw materials at the production site amounted to 4000 liters of milk syrup per year, due to a pipeline malfunction, after the leakage was eliminated on the recommendation of the project consultants, the company saved more than 1500 dollars per year.

The next example was shared by a technical manager of the Eurasia Bottlers enterprise in Tashkent, his experience of working with the REAP project: “Before working with the REAP project consultants, we had problems with the pumping part – with the soft starter. We had frequent hydraulic shocks, which caused damage to the equipment. In addition, we had high heat losses in the boiler section and the compressor unit was not properly set up. The project consultants helped us to set it up in such a way that there were no compressor stoppages and everything worked smoothly. After implementing some of the recommendations made by the project experts, we realized significant savings in gas, water and electricity.

The REAP project is implemented by an international consortium under financial support of the European Union. The consortium comprises the National Association of Small and Medium Businesses of Tajikistan (NAMSB), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (CCIU), the German Consulting Office adelphi, the Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria (AREC), STENUM Asia Sustainable Development Society (STENUM Asia), and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The consortium is led by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
