In Kyrgyzstan over 75 percent of agricultural land is cultivated by small-scale farmers. These farmers
are facing a number of challenges in production and marketing due to limited land resources (each
farmer has 1.35 ha of land on average), low production volumes, lack of permanent buyers and a
lack of knowledge and skills in agricultural technology and agro-marketing. Processing enterprises
are also encountering difficulties exporting their outputs, one of the reasons for which is a lack of
high quality raw materials.
