As part of the work of the ReCATH Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub and its efforts to build a sustainable expert network and platform for sharing experience on climate action in Central Asia, a regional online webinar on building an Emissions Trading System (ETS) will be organized. At this webinar, a leading agency in Kazakhstan – Zhasyl Damu will share its experience in developing the institutional framework and MRV system necessary for the functioning of the ETS.
This workshop is an important component of the ReCATH project, which supports Central Asian countries in developing the technical and institutional capacity needed to fulfill their obligations under the Paris Agreement.
Participants, including representatives of ministries, young specialists and experts in the field of inventory and allowance trading, will gain an understanding of the role of GHG inventory in the establishment of the ETS, the necessary legal framework and principles of allowance trading. The workshop will also address system development in the region, including discussions on cap-setting, allocation, monitoring, and carbon offsets.
By fostering regional cooperation and deepening understanding of inventory and ETS, this workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of Central Asian countries to implement effective climate policies and promote sustainable economic growth.
The event will be held online on August 15, 2024 and sessions will be led by experts from Zhasyl Damu and CAREC.
