The Second Regional Workshop on Transboundary Cooperation in Central Asia to develop a transformational project under the Peace Forest Initiative is taking place on 18 – 21 August 2024 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The event was organized by the United Nations Development Programme in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) with the support of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

Land degradation in Central Asia has a serious socio-economic impact, with the problem exacerbated by adverse climate challenges and man-made effects. The state of the environment directly affects the standard of living and health of the population, especially socially vulnerable groups. Degradation of arable land and pastures leads to decreased crop productivity and loss of biodiversity in mountain areas.

Within the framework of the workshop, it is planned to develop the concept of a transboundary project on adaptation to climate change, prevention of desertification and loss of biodiversity for subsequent financing at the expense of international donors.
