From March 11 to March 13, 2024, in Beijing (China), a regular meeting of experts from the ministries and departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states responsible for environmental issues was held in a hybrid format under the chairmanship of the Kazakh side.
During the meeting, experts completed the approval of the texts of such documents as the Agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the Joint approaches of the SCO member states to solving environmental problems.
The parties also discussed the draft Action Plan for the implementation of the Concept of Cooperation of the SCO Member States in the Field of Environmental Protection for the period 2025-2027, the Statement of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States on Effective Waste Management, the Cooperation Program of the SCO Member States in the Development of Protected Natural Resources territories (specially protected natural areas, protected natural areas) and eco-tourism, the Regulations on the Special Working Group of the SCO Member States on Climate Change and the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the SCO Green Belt Program for 2024-2026 and agreed upon in the near future complete their approval.
In addition, as part of the event, the Kazakh side informed about the progress of preparations for the Fifth Meeting of the heads of ministries and departments of the SCO member states responsible for environmental issues on May 22, 2024 in Astana, and handed over official invitations to the parties.
The Kazakh side also called on the parties to implement events within the framework of the “SCO Year of Ecology” in 2024 (holding cleanup days, planting trees, etc.).
At the same time, the Kazakh side invited the parties to take part in the Round Table of young specialists from hydrometeorological services of the SCO countries, organized by Kazhydromet service of Kazakhstan on March 19, 2024 in an online format.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a protocol of the meeting.
