The Aral Sea region has been heavily affected by severe climate change impacts, worsened by the degrading state of the Aral Sea. In Karakalpakstan, increased occurrence of droughts is placing serious strains on what little water is still available for irrigation. The main activities of the project, funded by the Adaptation Fund under the Kyoto Protocol of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), include: providing support to the central, regional, and local governments and to the vulnerable rural communities in order to increase their resilience towards climate change. This is in line with the Government Strategic Development Action Plan for 2017-2021, in particular for its third key direction “Priority development of national economy”.
Sustainable Rural Development project (SRDP) aims to enhance the living standards of the rural residents in Uzbekistan by providing access to quality infrastructure and service delivery. Project will significantly improve the living standards of the rural communities in the lagging villages in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara and Navoiy regions while expressing his desire for further scale up of the program in other regions of the country.
The overall objective of this 5-year project is to contribute to poverty reduction and food security in the upper catchments of the Zerafshan Valley, by improving rural livelihoods, food availability, accessibility and diets of the local population. Specifically, the project aims to improve accessibility, provision and usage of water and natural resources in 16 target villages in the districts of Ayni and K.Matcho in order to reach greater sustainability in the whole area.
The objective of the proposed project is to support climate resilient livelihoods in agricultural communities in the Lebap and Dashoguz velayats in Turkmenistan. Project will support three inter-related components, namely (i) improving climate related socio-economic outcomes in targeted agricultural communities in Lebap and Dashoguz velayats through the implementation of community-based adaptation solutions; (ii) Mainstreaming climate adaptation measures in agricultural and water sector development strategy and policy; and (iii) Strengthening national capacity for iterative climate change adaptation planning, implementation and monitoring in the country.

Improve agricultural performance and increase farm income in Ak Altin Rayon, with focus on cotton and wheat production
Address constraints in farm restructuring, drainage and irrigation, input supply, machinery hire services, marketing, and finance.
Monetization the cotton sub-sector. Liberalization of cotton prices, initiation of privatization of the cotton seed industry, and the enhancement of the cotton sub-sector’s foreign exchange earning capacity.
