Semey Solid Waste Management

The project will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, increase waste recycling and recovery rates and improve environmental, health and safety standards. It will support the commercialisation, sustainability and better quality of SWM services. It will also facilitate private sector involvement with improved governance and contractual arrangements between service providers and the city akimat.
It will include: (i) the construction of an EU standards compliant sanitary landfill and (ii) the construction of a biological solid waste treatment facility at the new sanitary landfill site.

Syrdarya Power Project

will finance the development, construction and operation of 1,500MW combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan. It will promote private sector participation in the energy market and strengthen the country’s generation fleet with a more efficient and reliable capacity. The Project is expected to lead to an estimated total system-wide savings of 2,611,000 tonnes of CO2 via the 1,539,000 tonnes CO2 savings due to decommissioning of inefficient units and further 1,072,000 tonnes of CO2 savings from the improved efficiency and reduced carbon intensity of the new plant.

Improving Access and Strengthening Innovations for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Selected Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Countries and the Caucasus

The knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) will develop a set of technical, institutional, and policy tools to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems for the most underserved communities and populations, including women, vulnerable groups such as children and people with special needs in seven countries within the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) region and Caucasus.
The TA is expected (i) to strengthen WASH components and integration of water, sanitation, hygiene, and health (WASH+H) in projects under Urban Development and Water Division (CWUW) of ADB’s Central and West Asia Department; and (ii) to apply COVID-19 infection prevention and control principles in the preparation and implementation of CWUWs projects, resulting in healthier populations in CAREC region through an inclusive, gender-sensitive, effective, and sustainable approach.

Ust-Kamenogorsk Solid Waste Management

The project aims at the modernisation of the solid waste management (SWM) system in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk (the City) to finance (i) the construction of an EU standards compliant sanitary landfill and (ii) the construction of a biological solid waste treatment facility at the new landfill site.
The Project will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, increase waste recycling and recovery rates and improve environmental, health and safety standards. The Project will also promote long-term O&M contractual arrangements with private sector participants, sustainability and better quality of SWM services and improve governance and contractual arrangements.

Horezm Water Project

The Project is expected to increase the number of people connected to the water and wastewater network by around 200,000 people, reduce water losses, enhance energy efficiency and quality of wastewater treatment.
Project Implementation Plan includes construction of new water intakes and renewal of pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and the installation of household and bulk meters. These components are aimed at improving water quality, access to safe drinking water and wastewater treatment services.

Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The objectives of the Additional Financing for the Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Project are to assist the Kyrgyz Republic: (i) to improve access and quality of water supply and sanitation services in the participating rural communities; and (ii) to strengthen the capacity of the recipient’s institutions in the water supply and sanitation sector. The Additional Financing (AF) responds to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic’s (GoKR) request via letter dated December 1, 2016, to scale up the scope of the original activities, target beneficiaries and the resulting development effectiveness of the original project. In addition to the additional financing, management has approved the second order restructuring consisting of: a revision of the results framework, including targets, as necessary, to capture results of the expanded scope of activities to be financed under the AF; and a three-year extension of the original closing date from June 30, 2022 to June 30, 2025 to ensure sufficient time for the completion of additional activities within the framework of the AF, including a one-year period of post-construction operational assistance in the project areas.
