On 12 September 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a briefing on “Establishment of the Regional Centre for Climate Technologies for Central Asia in Ashgabat” and “Development of Renewable Energy Sources in Turkmenistan”.

The event was attended by heads and representatives of relevant agencies of Turkmenistan, diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan.

In her speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Byashimova noted the key vectors of future work of the Regional Centre for Climate Technologies and the importance of the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan in this regard. It was stated that the main goal of the Centre is to introduce and apply climate technologies in the countries of the Central Asian region and promote technological advancement of the region on climate change issues.

UN Resident Coordinator for Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko emphasized that this initiative is a significant step in consolidating joint efforts to achieve common goals in the field of environmental protection.

During the briefing, the main directions and prospects of cooperation in the field of environmental protection, climate change and ecology were considered.

In addition, the agenda included the issues of rational use of natural resources, energy efficiency, strengthening and active application of the potential of alternative “green” energy in Turkmenistan.
