On January 22, 2025 Mergen Kepbanov Director of the Project Office of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) in Turkmenistan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the public Association “Taze Zaman” in Lebap velayat.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to increase the effectiveness of the long-term partnership between CAREC and the “Taze Zaman” Public Association to improve the environmental situation in the Central Asian region.

The main areas of cooperation include increasing the level of environmental education, improving knowledge exchange on adaptation, mitigation, climate finance and climate policy. This will be achieved through joint seminars, environmental campaigns, the development and dissemination of information materials, the active use of social networks, as well as interaction in the preparation and implementation of grants and projects.

The signing ceremony took place during the working trip of the director of the CAREC project office Mergen Kepbanov to the Lebap velayat. The signing of the Memorandum took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. Mergen Kepbanov noted that the agreement will be an important step towards the implementation of joint projects that meet the current challenges of the region and the needs of the local population.

“We are confident that cooperation with the public association “Taze Zaman” will be fruitful and will open up new opportunities for the effective implementation of our initiatives. This memorandum is not just a document, but a confirmation of our common desire to work for the benefit of the region,” emphasized Mergen Kepbanov.

Mubarak Kurbanova, the director of “Taze Zaman”, emphasized that joint efforts would lead to significant results.

The signing of the Memorandum symbolizes the beginning of a new stage in cooperation between CAREC and “Taze Zaman”. Both sides are confident that joint efforts will lead to significant improvements in the environmental situation of the region and will contribute to the sustainable development of Central Asia.

CAREC’s cooperation with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the field of youth can include many areas. The main areas of such interaction are:

1.    Educational programs: Joint trainings, seminars, lectures and master classes on circular economy, sustainable development and environmental awareness for young people

2.    Environmental projects: Development and implementation of projects aimed at improving the environmental situation, such as campaigns for landscaping, cleaning of territories, and the introduction of separate garbage collection systems.

3.    International exchange programs: Organization of trips and events aimed at exchanging experiences between the youth of Turkmenistan and other countries in order to inculcate sustainable development practices.

4.    Financing and grants: Support for youth initiatives through grant competitions for NGOs that work with youth in the field of ecology.

5.    Innovative startups: Helping young people create eco-enterprises or startups related to the circular economy and new technologies.

6.    Popularization of ecological culture: Holding events aimed at promoting an ecological lifestyle, including contests, festivals, and media campaigns.

7.    Research and analysis: Involving young NGO professionals in research on ecology, climate and sustainable use of resources.

8.    With the support of the OSCE, attracting young people to the annual conference on CALP.
