International Conference on Water Diplomacy of Tajikistan Held in Dushanbe

The international conference “Emomali Rahmon’s Water Diplomacy: From the First Step to Global Partnership” was held in the capital of Tajikistan.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan jointly with the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the country. The conference is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the first water initiative of Tajikistan adopted by the UN General Assembly, as well as to the presentation of the book “Water Diplomacy of Emomali Rahmon: from the first step to global partnership”.

During the conference, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin spoke about the country’s role in shaping the global agenda in the field of water resources and climate. He emphasized that Dushanbe’s water diplomacy strengthens international cooperation in this area. “The Dushanbe Water Process has become an important element of global development programs and has firmly entered the agenda of multilateral platforms,” ​​Mukhriddin noted.

The forum was attended by high-ranking international representatives, including: UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Ermekbayev, CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization Celeste Saulo, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Lidia Brito, Rector of the UN University Tsiliji Marwala, Global Director of Water Practice of the World Bank Saroj Kumar, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) Askhat Orazbay.

Representatives of ministries and departments of Tajikistan, diplomats, representatives of the UN, international organizations, scientists and journalists also took part in the conference. The speakers highly praised Tajikistan’s contribution to solving global problems related to water resources and climate change. They noted that Dushanbe’s efforts contribute to uniting the international community to find joint solutions. The conference included a concert “Melodies of Pure Water” with the participation of young musicians from the Tajik National Conservatory named after T. Sattorov.
