– In order to fulfill the obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity, work is underway to develop a draft Concept for the conservation of biodiversity in our country. The concept will make it possible to increase the area of specially protected natural areas to 12.5% of the country’s territory. Now it is 11.3%. It is planned to create 6 specially protected natural areas. In particular, it is planned to create the Aral and Zhaiyk forest reserves, the Irtysh floodplain nature reserve, the Tukta National Park, the Merken Regional Park, the Kyzylkum Nature Reserve, and it is also planned to expand the territories of the Ustyurt, Karatau, Akzhayik and Ili-Balkhash reserves, – said Daniyar Turgambayev.

The Chairman of the Committee noted that ecotourism in national parks is responsible walks aimed at familiarising oneself with natural areas with minimal impact on the environment.

According to Daniyar Turgambaev, the number of tourists has been gradually growing in recent years. In 2024, 2.8 million people visited specially protected natural areas, which is 400 thousand people more than in 2023.

The speaker also reported that in order to ensure the openness of decisions taken in national parks, coordinating councils have been created. All decisions on the use of specially protected natural areas will be made taking into account the proposals of the coordinating councils.

Work continues on automating checkpoints at national parks in order to ensure transparency in collecting fees for entry into nature reserves and national parks and to reduce corruption risks.

In addition, all state national parks now allow visitors to purchase tickets online.
