The international conference “Water Resources Management: Risks, Sustainability and Innovations”  dedicated to the implementation of the republican campaign “Taza Kazakhstan” was held in Astana , Kazinform correspondent reports.

As the director of the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Temirbolat said, the conference is also timed to coincide with World Water Day, which is celebrated annually on March 22.

– Issues of water use and water security are a global problem that is acutely on the agenda of humanity and is growing every day against the backdrop of climate change and the dynamic growth of the Earth’s population, – noted Bakytzhan Temirbolat.

According to him, a family of four uses an average of 20-25 cubic meters of water per month, which is 25 tons of water.

“Kazakhstan, being in 66th place in terms of water reserves out of 179 countries and in addition to this having the above-mentioned bouquet of serious problems, at the same time in terms of the volume of water consumed per capita, ranks 11th,” he added.

Deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azhar Sagyndykova noted in her speech that initiatives to restore watershed areas and ecosystems are becoming increasingly popular.

– Projects to restore coastal zones of rivers and lakes help improve water quality and strengthen ecosystems. Innovative technologies, such as mobile applications for monitoring water quality, involve the public in monitoring water resources. Water resource problems in Kazakhstan require an integrated approach and participation of all parties. Society and civil initiatives play an important role in solving these problems and protecting nature, – said Azhar Sagyndykova.

Chairman of the Water Resources Committee, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arsen Zhakanbayev shared plans for the construction of new reservoirs.

— In response to modern challenges, a comprehensive reform of the water sector is being carried out in Kazakhstan. One of the key areas is the construction and modernization of water infrastructure. In the near future, it is planned to build 42 new reservoirs, reconstruct 37 hydraulic structures, and build and upgrade about 14 thousand kilometers of irrigation canals, said Arsen Zhakanbayev.

In addition, the speaker spoke about large-scale projects in the field of water management.

— To improve water resources management, we have developed a new Water Code, which has already passed the first reading in the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We have also approved the Concept for the Development of the Water Resources Management System of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2024–2030 and the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Water Sector of Kazakhstan for 2024–2028. In addition, a roadmap for saving water in all sectors of the economy has been developed, — the chairman of the committee said.
