o continue supporting the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the respected Emomali Rahmon on climate change, glacier melting and ensuring the ecological safety of mankind, the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Branch of the Aga Khan Agency for the Environment (AKAN) in the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of the project “Adaptive and Sustainable Communities in their Habitat (ARCH)” held an international conference on the topic “Monitoring glaciers and glacial lakes – Risk management” – August 26-27, 2024 in the city of Dushanbe, which was attended by representatives of a number of international organizations, ministries and departments of the republic, industry scientists and experts, and the media.
During the speech of the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Qurbonzoda A.H., it was noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the Founder of Peace and national Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the respected Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan is now recognized as a leading country in the international arena and promotes global initiatives in the field of climate and water. Confirmation of this statement by the UN General Assembly is the adoption of the resolution “Declaration of 2025 – the International Year of Glacier Protection” and “March 21 – World Glacier Day”. At the same time, the adoption of the resolution “Decade of Action in the Field of Cryospheric Sciences, 2025-2034” dated August 13, 2024 is among them, which creates a favorable basis for international cooperation and drawing the attention of the world community to the most important issues of glacier and cryosphere conservation.
It is worth noting that the conference will create a favorable environment for the exchange of ideas and knowledge transfer between scientists, practitioners and politicians, will contribute to scientific progress in the field of risks associated with mudslides, measures to mitigate and respond to them, as well as increase awareness of risks and their scientific and technical management, will contribute to the formation and promotion of partnerships relations and network cooperation between the participating experts.
Taking into account field activities, the International Conference on the topic “Monitoring of glaciers and glacial lakes – risk management” will be held on August 28-31, 2024 in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, Khorog.
