The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, noted that the positions of the countries have a fundamental coincidence on water issues, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
“Water issues in the XXI century are a global challenge. The economic and climatic well-being of the planet, the nature and direction of political interstate interaction largely depend on how effectively we cope with it, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized,expressing satisfaction that the positions of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan on water issues fundamentally coincide and therefore serve as a solid foundation for joint work,” the statement said.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people recalled that in his speech at the “One Water” Summit in Saudi Arabia, he highlighted three key principles for solving water problems in Central Asia: compliance with international law, mutual consideration of the interests of all states in the region and the participation of international organizations, firstly it’s the UN’s turn.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that, based on these principles, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan will be able to successfully cooperate in solving water problems in the region.
