On June 11, 2024, the 3rd High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028 officially launched. The conference was opened by the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Dear Emomali Rahmon.
In his speech, the President emphasized the importance of water resources in achieving sustainable development, and the ongoing impact of various challenges on this vital resource. In this context, the President outlined the global situation and development trends in the field of water resources, as well as Tajikistan’s efforts to promote water issues on the regional and global agenda.
The conference is held by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations and other development partners.
Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. also spoke at the opening ceremony. Ms. Zeljka Cvijanovic, President of the UN General Assembly H.E. On the eve of the Conference on June 10, 2024 in Dushanbe, various stakeholders held Forums dedicated to the interaction of parliamentarians, the private sector, scientists, women, youth and children in the field of solving and identifying water problems.
The conference will include plenary sessions, where the heads of all official delegations will make statements, 5 interactive dialogues, the topics of which are identical to the topics of the interactive dialogues of the UN Water Conference 2023, as well as 15 side events covering issues of action and partnership in the field of water resources, efficiency and value of water, safe conditions of water supply, sanitation and hygiene, transboundary water cooperation and other issues.
The third Dushanbe Water Conference is attended by high-level representatives of UN member states, representatives of international and regional organizations, international financial institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, academia, communities, local authorities and other stakeholders.
