Since 2023, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), with support from the Coca-Cola Foundation, has been implementing the project ‘Increasing Women’s Economic Independence through Access to Irrigation Water and Infrastructure’. The project covers Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, contributing to the improvement of women’s economic status and agricultural productivity.

In the Republic of Tajikistan, the following results were achieved during the project implementation:

  1. Installation of drip irrigation system in dekhkan farm ‘Jalol’ (WUA ‘Panjrud’). It allowed saving up to 70% of irrigation water and increasing crop yields by 20-30%.
  2. Rehabilitation of the Afgonsho-1 irrigation canal:

The capacity has been increased from 100 to 1500 l/s in the area of A. Jomi and to 600 l/s in Khuroson district.

Water supply of 400 ha of land and reclamation of over 90 ha was improved and about 25 ha was rehabilitated.

  1. Cleaning of Nusratullo Mahsum drainage:

The drainage capacity was increased to 12-13 m³/s (500-800 l/s before cleaning).

Groundwater level was reduced on the territory of 300 ha, more than 20 ha were improved and 10 ha were put into turnover, with plans to develop another 5 ha.

  1. Conducting trainings for women farmers to improve their skills and awareness.
