The opening of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) country office symbolizes a new stage in Kyrgyzstan’s quest for sustainable green growth. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniyar Amangeldiev at the opening ceremony.
The event was held with the participation of GGGI General Director, Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Chairman of the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniyar Tolonov, as well as representatives of GGGI and invited guests. Ban Ki-moon, President and Chairman of GGGI, delivered a video message.
In his speech, the minister noted that by decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the period from 2023 to 2027 was declared a five-year period of action for the development of mountain regions.
“The Kyrgyz Republic has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, focusing on the introduction of new technologies and environmentally friendly transport. And the opening of the GGGI office symbolizes a new stage in Kyrgyzstan’s pursuit of sustainable green growth,” emphasized Daniyar Amangeldiev.
At the end of his speech, the minister expressed deep gratitude to GGGI for the visit to Kyrgyzstan and noted the importance of today’s event. He expressed hope for further successful cooperation with GGGI in implementing climate initiatives and achieving sustainable environmental development.
In turn, in a video message, GGGI President and Chairman Ban Ki-moon noted that the opening of the country office marks an important step forward in the joint commitment of GGGI and the government of the Kyrgyz Republic to the development and implementation of sustainable green growth strategies.
“As you well know, achieving sustainable development is a marathon, not a sprint, which requires constant dedication, innovation and, above all, collaboration,” he said.
The Kyrgyz Republic acceded to the agreement establishing the Global Green Growth Institute on December 9, 2019. In February 2024, an agreement between Kyrgyzstan and GGGI was ratified, and this allowed the institute to fully begin its activities in the country.
Since its inception, GGGI has mobilized more than $8.6 billion in green investments worldwide.
