This Initiative is conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic with the active participation of JIA Business Association, Kyrgyz Association of Tour Operators (KATO) Unison Group, Regional Environmental Centre in Central Asia (CAREC) and the support of development partners – Green Economy and Sustainable Private Sector Development Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic implemented by GIZ with co-financing from BMZ, EU and SDC; OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek;

PREAMBLE

Within the framework of global and regional challenges, the “green” economy remains the main tool for ensuring the sustainable development of the Central Asian countries. The development of green energy, sustainable tourism, green construction and waste management remain particularly relevant. At the same time, there is a need for an ongoing, joint dialogue between the governments of Central Asia and the private sector to identify potential initiatives of a regional scale for joint promotion and implementation in order to ensure the sustainable development of the region.

Strengthening regional cooperation among Central Asian countries and promoting joint initiatives is necessary to:

1. coordinated interaction of the Central Asian region with the international community in priority areas
2. reducing the risks of climate change consquences
3. enhancing sustainable economic development in the countries of the region
4. ensuring sustainable development of the Central Asian region as a whole.

With this in mind, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, represented by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic , is initiating a public-private dialogue at the regional level within the framework of the Green Economy 2024 Forum, which will focus on the regional development of the green economy in Central Asia, in particular, in such priority areas as green energy, sustainable tourism, green construction and waste management.

The forum is aimed at assisting in the joint promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation for the sustainable development of the Central Asian region. This platform contributes to the establishment of business ties between all stakeholders, the exchange of experience, and the identification of potential initiatives of a regional scale for coordinated promotion at the global level.

OBJECTIVE OF THE FORUM:

The objective is to enhance cooperation among Central Asian countries on priority areas of the green economy. This will be achieved by focusing on key sectors including green energy, sustainable tourism, green construction, and waste management. In addition, potential initiatives at the regional level will be identified to promote and facilitate joint implementation.

TASKS OF THE FORUM:

• Raising awareness of the benefits and opportunities of the green economy in the Central Asian region.
• Stimulating dialogue between representatives of business, government agencies, industry associations and educational institutions on green energy, sustainable tourism, green construction and waste management.
• Presentation of green innovative projects and technologies in the countries of the Central Asian region.
• Exchange of experience and dissemination of best green practices in the countries of the Central Asian region.
• Formation of new partnerships and development of cooperation between business, government agencies, industry associations and educational institutions of the countries of the Central Asian region in the sectors of green energy, sustainable tourism, green construction, waste management.
• Search for joint solutions to promote the green economy at the regional level.
• Coordination of efforts of all existing and potential stakeholders to promote a green economy in Central Asia.

EXPECTED RESULTS

• The Forum participants were informed about the benefits and opportunities of the green economy in Central Asia.
• The Forum participants established contacts and identified potential initiatives of a regional scale for further joint and coordinated promotion and implementation.
• The participants of the Forum were acquainted with the experience in promoting the green economy and green initiatives in the countries of Central Asia, in particular, in the sectors of green energy, sustainable tourism, green building, waste management.
• Coordination has been strengthened and the mobilization of joint efforts and initiatives for the development of a green economy in the Central Asian region has been ensured.
• In parallel with the Forum, it is planned to hold the Green Expo-2024 exhibition, which will be held in Bishkek.
• For guests from foreign countries and business delegations, it is planned to conduct a site visit of green facilities around Bishkek.
