On September 18-19, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the events of the Sustainable Energy Week of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), which is being held in Geneva. The session was attended by high-ranking officials from various countries.
On Wednesday, September 18, Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Serdar Saparov, who arrived in Geneva to participate in the above-mentioned forum, spoke at the session “Identifying Opportunities for a Just Transition in the UNECE Region,” which examined best practices and existing problems in the processes of countries’ transition to environmentally friendly energy sources.
On Thursday, September 19, Ambassador Vepa Khadzhiev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, spoke at the event. He spoke in detail about the main directions of Turkmenistan’s economic policy and emphasized the importance of priority tasks within the framework of the country’s chairmanship of SPECA (UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia) in 2025.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is actively working on developing sustainable energy and rational use of natural resources, which is a key element of the country’s economic development strategy. In particular, Vepa Hajive focused on such priorities as diversification of the energy sector, introduction of innovative technologies and promotion of renewable energy projects, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva reported.
The session concluded with a discussion during which the participants discussed ways to further develop energy cooperation and exchanged experiences in implementing sustainable development projects.
