On 25-26 September 2024, Kyrgyzstan hosts a regional conference on preparation for COP-29 in Bishkek.
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic with financial support from UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event is dedicated to the discussion by the Central Asian countries of adaptation and motivational processes to combat the effects of climate change and the readiness of countries to participate in COP 29 in Azerbaijan.
Theconference is attended by embassies of countries,delegationsfromKazakhstan,Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan,international development partners from the WorldBank,EBRD,ADB,UNAgencies,GIZ,JICA,KOIKA, non-governmental organizations and regional organizations.
On the first day, a number of sessions were held where participants were able to discuss a number of important issues:
Technical Session 1: Global and Regional Perspective on Adaptation Planning explored how Central Asian countries can align their national adaptation plans with global targets, focusing on lessons from the Global Stocktake.
Technical Session 2: Country Experiences in adaptation planning and financing discussed how Central Asian countries are translating national adaptation strategies into actionable plans across key sectors such as agriculture, water management, public health, and other and aims to foster cross-country learning and collaboration by showcasing diverse strategies for identifying priority areas, integrating adaptation into national policies, and mobilizing resources for effective implementation.
Speakers of Plenary Session 1: Regional cooperation and policy development for climate adaptation in Central Asia: Resilient Mountain Ecosystems for Climate Adaptation in Central Asia presented and discussed opportunities for transboundary cooperation, knowledge exchange, and policy development to build resilience in Central Asia. The session highlighted also how regional collaboration can enhance the adaptive capacity of mountain communities and promote sustainable development.
