Assistant Deputy Administrator Kaur and U.S. Ambassador Rood met with key Turkmen government officials, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Turkmengaz, and Turkmennebit.

During the meetings, Assistant Deputy Administrator Kaur discussed important initiatives related to economic diversification, environmental protection, and citizen participation in governance. This includes important regional initiatives such as combating climate change and facilitating cross-border trade in the region, according to a U.S. Embassy press release.

At COP 28, Turkmenistan made clear its commitment to combating climate change by joining the Global Methane Initiative. USAID is working with Turkmenistan to reduce methane emissions and advance decarbonization.

USAID also partners with Turkmenistan to digitalize the Turkmen economy through the State Statistics Committee to support digital submission of statistical reports.
