Ecology AKIpress – On October 10, Bishkek is hosting the national climate dialogue “The Path to COP-29. Adaptation to Climate Change: Coordination, Strengthening Actions and Improving Access to Financing” with the participation of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Asel Rimkulova, representatives of government agencies and climate experts.
Baisalov noted that the conference is the leading event within the framework of the “Climate Week” before the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). COP-29 will be held from November 11 to 22 in Baku (Azerbaijan).
“There is a very large agenda, thematic days, the whole world will come to Baku, there will be 150 thousand people. Today, the task is precisely to seriously hear each other, share plans, so that we have an understanding of what each government agency is doing, what our civil organization is doing, what our business community is doing. In this way, we will compare and recalculate our capabilities,” he said.
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers recalled that this year, for the first time, Kyrgyzstan will have its own national pavilion at COP-29: “It is not that cheap for our country. Well, and not that expensive. Last year in Dubai we did not have one, but now we will have a national pavilion.”
He noted the importance of advancing the mountain agenda at COP-29 in Baku, where negotiations are currently underway.
“Together with other mountain states, under the leadership of President Sadyr Japarov, we are promoting the mountain agenda. Because we have discovered that they talk about forests, oceans, the cryosphere. What is the cryosphere? The cryosphere is the Arctic and Antarctic. Mountains are not only glaciers, but also a separate unique ecosystem. Therefore, last year in Dubai, together with our international partners, we actively worked to promote the mountain agenda. And we achieved success there. This year we must consolidate it,” Baisalov said.
He told the participants that the Kyrgyz delegation, headed by the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Medet Mashiev and the special representative of the president for the implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions Dinara Kemelova, are in Baku for negotiations on the upcoming event.
Kemelova took part in the event online and said that tense negotiations were taking place in Baku.
“Yesterday we held bilateral meetings with the President of COP-29 Mukhtar Babayev. We also met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Amina Mohamed. She admitted that the mountain agenda is minimal in the UNFCCC. Now we will work with the secretariat so that it is heard in all sessions of COP-29. We held negotiations, we are talking about the importance of advancing the mountain agenda. There is also very good news. We are talking with the Azerbaijani side about holding a high-level meeting on mountains and climate,” the special representative of the president said.
