Astana. November 12. KazTAG – Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Suleiman Al-Jasser, the press service of Akorda reports.

“The issues of implementing the agreements reached and prospects for further cooperation were discussed. Particular attention was paid to joint projects in the field of environmental protection, including measures to mitigate the effects of climate change and transition to green energy. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of these initiatives in the context of global environmental challenges and Kazakhstan’s desire for sustainable development,” the statement said.

Tokayev highly praised the results of the round table of the Arab Coordination Group held in Astana in September this year. This event demonstrated mutual commitment to deepening multilateral cooperation in the implementation of strategic projects.

The President welcomed the signing of the first phase of the financial and technical agreement on the project “Development of water resources resilient to climate change”. The implementation of this project will allow the construction and modernization of eight reservoirs, a counter-regulator and 115 canals with a total length of 3,450 km in seven regions of Kazakhstan, which will ensure sustainable water supply to agricultural lands with an area of ​​more than 332 thousand hectares.

Tokayev thanked the IDB for its continued support, which plays an important role in the sustainable economic development of Kazakhstan.

 

“Following the negotiations, a signed document was exchanged. The agreement amounted to $1.153 billion, including a grant of $3.5 million. This project is the largest in terms of financing in the 51-year history of the bank,” the statement said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov reported that an agreement was signed between the government of Kazakhstan and the Islamic Development Bank on financing a water resources development project.
