During a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Kurmalaev spoke about the use of digital technologies in the field of ecology.

He noted that the Ministry is actively implementing digital transformation projects in accordance with the instructions of the Head of State.

Thus, the approved Digital Transformation Map is aimed at introducing modern technologies over the next five years. Among them are artificial intelligence, satellite technologies, computer vision, big data analytics and the Internet of Things ecosystem.

These technologies are already being applied in areas such as monitoring pollutant emissions, early detection of forest fires, and space monitoring of ecosystems. The use of digital solutions helps to increase the efficiency of control, improve interaction between public and private entities, and make prompt and informed decisions.

The Ministry is actively automating public services. As a result, 29 out of 30 public services are provided electronically. In 2024, the automation of the “Issue of a logging ticket” service was completed, which made it possible to transfer the process to an electronic format.

The key project is the National Data Bank on the State of the Environment and Natural Resources. The platform provides access to the entire infrastructure of the environmental fund and facilitates interaction between the state, nature users and the public. Within the framework of this project, emission monitoring systems, waste and carbon emission accounting, as well as automation of environmental reporting have been implemented.

The Interactive Map of Natural Resources “Tabigat.gov.kz” is also being implemented, which provides information on the state of the ecosystem and natural resources of the country. Satellite monitoring helps to identify unauthorized dumps, illegal logging and monitor forest fires.

An early detection system for forest fires is being implemented, which allows for a three-fold reduction in response time, a 20-fold reduction in fire area, and a 15-fold reduction in fire extinguishing costs. The system operates successfully in nature reserves and national parks.

The Ministry will continue to implement and develop digital solutions for effective control and management of natural resources, which will help improve the environmental situation in the country and ensure sustainable development.
