Ecology AKIpress – On December 11, the Ministry of Natural Resources held a conference entitled “Biodiversity of Mountain Regions in the Context of Climate Change,” timed to coincide with International Mountain Day, the press service of the department reported.
The event was attended by the President’s Special Representative for the Implementation of the Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions Dinara Kemelova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Mirslav Amankulov and employees of the Ministry.
The Deputy Minister noted that Kyrgyzstan occupies a leading position in promoting the mining agenda on international platforms.
The conference noted:
– adoption of the UN resolution “Sustainable Mountain Development” (December 2022), initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic, which declared 2023–2027 the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions;
– the national campaign “Zhashyl Muras”, within the framework of which more than 8.1 million trees have been planted in two years, including in hard-to-reach mountainous areas. It is planned to plant 5-6 million seedlings annually to protect glaciers from global warming;
– participation in the GSLEP program and the 10th anniversary of the Bishkek Declaration of 2013, which makes Kyrgyzstan a leader in the conservation of the snow leopard and its ecosystem.
