A new species of plant has begun to be planted on the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
For the afforestation of saline and wet soils, the area of which has reached 600 thousand hectares, a plant, Arundo reed, is being tested for the first time on the territory of the dried bottom of the Aral Sea.

It is noted that drought-resistant plants can grow in difficult conditions and reach a height of 4 meters per year. And the technology of their planting is unique in that it is carried out by root shoots, instead of seedlings. Now they plant plants that are 1 month old.
“These are new plants for the dried bottom of the Aral Sea, introduced from other zones. In 1-2 years, the entire area will be planted with these plants, because the root shoots produce shoots. They will not only help prevent salt winds, but their stems can be used for construction, weaving and fodder production,” the press service of the Ministry of Ecology quotes Novitsky as saying.
