Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan – On November 5, 2024, a training session was held at the King Plaza Hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for specialists from basin organizations of Central Asia. The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) organized this training as part of Component 2 of the regional project “Climate-Resilient Water Resources Management in Central Asia” (2024–2026), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Representatives from basin organizations in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan participated in the training, with special attention given to the involvement of women specialists from these organizations. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, utilizing the Zoom platform for online participants. This training is part of a series of transboundary events aimed at strengthening the capacity of basin organizations, which are planned to continue through the end of 2025.

The primary objective of the event was to enhance the skills of water sector specialists, enabling them to apply the knowledge gained in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in practice. During the day, participants explored various aspects of IWRM, including international water law and its application in the region, gender-sensitive basin planning, the use of web-GIS services, and automated systems for the monitoring and distribution of irrigation water.

The training concluded with a lecture on efficient water use in agriculture, followed by a group discussion and the presentation of certificates to participants.

Training materials developed by regional trainers were provided to participants and will subsequently be made available on the Eurasian River Basin Management Portal (www.riverbp.net).

CAREC invites all interested representatives from the water management sector to actively participate in such events and contribute to the sustainable development of the region’s water resources.
