The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to provide technical support for a project aimed at implementing integrated renewable energy solutions to accelerate Turkmenistan’s “green” transformation. According to Trend, citing the ADB, the project will contribute to the country’s environmental sustainability and strengthen its position in the global transition to renewable energy sources.
One of the main goals is to develop a detailed roadmap for the implementation of solar energy, including the creation of innovative “smart” and “green” cities such as the new city of Arkadag. As part of the project, assessments and feasibility studies will be conducted, and a pilot solar power plant will be launched in the urban area.
The pilot project is expected to generate over 4 GWh of renewable energy annually, which will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 3,000 tons per year. Turkmenistan aims to transition to renewable energy sources, which will open new opportunities for economic diversification, reduce carbon emissions, and develop new export markets, including the creation of “green” energy corridors connecting Central Asia with Europe.
