XI’AN, March 30 (Xinhua) — The launch ceremony of the secretariat of the China-Central Asia Cooperation Mechanism was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, on Saturday.

On this occasion, congratulatory letters were sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, praised the cooperation between China and Central Asian countries under the China-Central Asia Mechanism established four years ago.

The establishment of the secretariat of this mechanism marks the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders of China and Central Asian countries, and also once again demonstrates to the international community the six countries’ strong determination to pursue development hand in hand and promote cooperation shoulder to shoulder, Wang Yi said.

I am confident that with the joint support of all parties, the secretariat will work smoothly and efficiently, and the China-Central Asia mechanism will become even stronger and more exceptional, and will also bring even more prosperity to the people of the six countries, the Chinese Foreign Minister added.

The foreign ministers of the five Central Asian countries said that all stakeholders have high hopes for the secretariat and will do their best to support its work. They expressed hope that the creation of the secretariat will give new impetus to cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and China.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong noted that the secretariat’s primary responsibility is to promote the implementation of the consensus and results achieved by the heads of state of the six states, carry out preparatory work for the China-Central Asia Summit, serve foreign ministers’ meetings and cooperation mechanisms in key areas.

He also expressed hope that the secretariat will actively perform its duties, faithfully carry out guarantee services, and serve for the benefit of the China-Central Asia mechanism.

Secretariat Executive Director Wu Yingqin said that the secretariat will work actively, strengthen institution-building, make every effort to implement the results of the China-Central Asia Summit and important consensuses of heads of state, promote cooperation in key areas, and promote the continuous achievement of new results in China-Central Asia cooperation .
