On March 29, a meeting was held between the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Uzbekistan Abdujabbor Rakhmonzoda.

During the meeting, prospects for further development and expansion of bilateral cooperation were discussed. In particular, attention was paid to the gradual transition to a green economy, ensuring a healthy and safe environment, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developing environmental and institutional education and human resources, taking into account national culture and international experience.

In turn, the commitment of the Republic of Tajikistan to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with the government of Uzbekistan and supporting socio-economic and environmental reforms was highly appreciated.

It was also noted during the meeting that since 2018, our country has been implementing a program to green the bottom of the Aral Sea, within the framework of which work has been carried out on an area of ​​almost 2 million hectares. In addition, it was noted that as part of the national Yashil Makon initiative, it is planned to increase the amount of green space to 30%, and 125 million seedlings will be planted in this year’s spring planting season.

During the meeting, views were exchanged and agreements were reached on the creation of transboundary protected natural areas, the development of proposals for new joint grant projects by international environmental organizations, the exchange of experience and information in the field of biodiversity, the protection of migratory animal species, waste processing, as well as the development of tourism and hydrometeorology.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to strengthen cooperation in ensuring a favorable environmental situation in the region.
