By the order of the Acting Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, amendments and additions have been made to the rules governing tariff formation. The tariff for individuals will be directly proportional to the volume of consumption.

During a roundtable discussion in the Majilis on issues related to the secondary use of wastewater, the minister explained that, with the aim of encouraging consumers to use resources responsibly, a mechanism for differentiating tariffs based on the volume of drinking water consumption within the established norm per capita will be introduced for the population.

According to calculations, four tariff levels are envisaged for individuals:

Group I – consumption up to 3 cubic meters per month, the current tariff applies (49% of the population);

Group II – consumption from 3 to 5 cubic meters per month, a tariff higher than the current one by 20% (20% of the population);

Group III – consumption from 5 to 10 cubic meters per month, a tariff higher than the current one by 50% (20% of the population);

Group IV – consumption exceeding 10 cubic meters per month, a tariff higher than the current one by 100% (11% of the population).

It was also noted that annual water consumption in car washes and saunas exceeds 200 million cubic meters. The need for the implementation of technologies for the secondary use of water resources, especially in small and medium-sized businesses such as car washes and saunas, was emphasized. The minister expressed confidence that the use of local wastewater treatment technologies, particularly in car washes, will enable the inclusion of water in the secondary circulation without constant reliance on clean water from centralized sources.
