The Government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov discussed the use of information technology in the field of environmental protection. According to Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Erlan Nysanbayev, they have become an integral tool in solving environmental problems, such as the formation of spontaneous landfills and illegal logging. For example, satellite images and artificial intelligence have significantly enhanced the ability of regulatory authorities to combat these threats. This year, 159 officials have been held accountable for failing to take measures to eliminate illegal garbage sites. In terms of illegal logging, 112 cases were detected in 2024. Materials on 56 of them have been referred to court.
“Based on satellite data from Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary, which helps to detect spontaneous dumps, territorial ecology departments go out and record each case, after which an order for liquidation is issued. In case of failure to take measures, officials are brought to administrative responsibility. On illegal logging, based on data from Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary, if the facts are confirmed, the materials are transferred to law enforcement agencies. The use of Artificial Intelligence technologies is an effective tool for detecting and eliminating violations of legislation in the field of environmental protection,” said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Erlan Nysanbae.
