Environmental podcasts from Radio Karakalpakstan in Russian are regularly published on the Community of Practice platform as part of the USAID Environmental Restoration of the Aral Sea Activity (ERAS II).

The USAID Environmental Restoration of the Aral Sea Activity is being implemented by the USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity with the assistance of the Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in the Republic of Kazakhstan and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Environmental Restoration of the Aral Sea Activity will use proven methods that increase the sustainability of the results and provide an opportunity for dissemination and application by local communities, regional governments and other donors.

Currently, 5 episodes of this podcast have been uploaded to the platform:

  • Episode 1 – Oasis. In this podcast, Zauresh Alimbetova, Deputy Director of the ED of the IFAS Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about the work within the framework of the ERAS project.
  • Episode 2 – Climate Smart Business Incubator. This episode features an interview with Elena Selezneva, Green Business Innovation (GBI), who spoke about startup projects and trainings conducted within the framework of the Climate Smart Business Incubator program.
  • Episode 3 – Pilot plots. In this episode, IICAS representative Sharafat Khojanazarov spoke about the pilot sites of the USAID ecosystem restoration project on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea (ERAS II).
  • Episode 4 – Technical Comdendium. On the next podcast, Vadim Ilyich Sokolov, a hydraulic engineer, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, head of the IFAS agency, spoke about what exactly is being done and what are the prospects for the technical compendium.
  • Episode 5 – Startup project. In this podcast, Guzal Dzhumaniyazovna Kutlieva, Head of the laboratory “Microbiology and Biotechnology of Probiotics” of the Institute of Microbiology, spoke.

The Community of Practice platform is a communication and outreach platform for bringing together representatives of educational institutions, research institutions, government agencies, international organizations, youth and other stakeholders. The platform was created in 2022 by USAID WAVE in collaboration with CAREC on the basis of the Eurasian River Basin Portal (riverbp.net).
