The 6th Aral Summer School offers topics that will help you gain a deeper understanding of important environmental and social issues in the region:

Climate Change: Discover the interrelationships of climate change for the environment and the economy. Learn about water security threats to the population of the Lake Chad basin, which is repeating the fate of the Aral Sea

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM): Learn about the unique Kok-Aral Dam, explore aspects of water policy and coordinated transboundary water resources management.

Socio-Economic Features of Development in the Aral Sea Region: Explore the problems of the population living in the Aral Sea region and ways to improve their well-being.

Tourism in the Aral Sea region: Explore the specifics of organizing “Ecotourism” and “Dark Tourism” and their benefits for the development of the region.

These themes are relevant and useful for understanding the future of water resources, socio-economic development not only in the Central Asian region, but also in the continents as a whole. Participating in the school will not only give you new knowledge, but also a unique, transformative experience!

Dates: August 12–22, 2024

Location: Almaty and Aral Sea region, Kazakhstan

Participants: Young professionals and students (up to 25 years old) from Central Asian countries, Afghanistan (living in Kazakhstan) and Mongolia.

Knowledge of English is advantageous.
