In Almaty, UNDP held a two-day seminar on paid services in specially protected natural areas (SPNA) of Kazakhstan🌿
At the event, with the participation of experts from ten environmental organizations and @qazaqormany, financial strategies based on international practice and experience were proposed that will allow protected natural areas to optimize their budgets through the introduction and development of paid services.
The experts proposed solutions for the formation of tariff calculations for the provision of paid services, as well as a plan and reporting on paid services in protected areas.
🌿Today, specially protected natural areas in Kazakhstan occupy a vast area – more than 30 million hectares.
🌱Due to the rich natural and cultural-historical potential, the introduction and development of paid services in natural areas will have a positive impact on the economic development of remote areas of the country.
In 2023-24, UNDP, within the framework of BIOFIN, supported the Committee on Forestry and Wildlife in revising tariffs for paid services provided by protected areas.
Updated tariffs were approved in 2024.
