Today, December 20, 2024, the Branch of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia in the Kyrgyz Republic, as part of the implementation of the project ” Increasing economic independence and improving the status of women in Central Asia through access to irrigation water and infrastructure” held a training session for members of the water users (farmers) association of Kara-Zhygach aiyl aimak and village Prigorodnoye Chui region. This training is one of a series of trainings planned within the framework of the implementation of this project. The topics of the trainings were defined at the beginning of the project activities, when a needs analysis was conducted with the participation of stakeholders. The topic of the training is “Organization and management of irrigation and drainage systems in WUAs”

The purpose of the training was to increase the potential of specialists and farmers of the Ta-Bek and Ak-Chii WUAs on issues of organizing irrigation water supply services. The training was conducted on three topics:

  • Organization and management of irrigation and drainage systems;
  • Rules and regulations for the operation of irrigation and drainage systems;
  • Water use WUAs

The training was attended by a representative of the Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture, a representative of the Coca – Cola company Bishkek bottlers, representative of the Alamedin district department for support of WUAs, specialists and farmers of WUAs “Ta-Bek” and “Ak-Chii”, specialists of the CAREC branch in Kyrgyzstan.

The training was conducted in the form of active involvement of participants and was based on the knowledge that the participants already had. The training participants held more discussions, exchanged experiences with each other using practical knowledge as an example.

As a result of the training, the participants received knowledge on

  • models of organization and management of irrigation and drainage systems, on the legal basis for the activities of WUAs;
  • the basics of management, operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems, rules and regulations for the operation of irrigation and drainage systems;
  • the basics of water resources planning and management, water accounting and water use at the WUA level.

 

The training was conducted by a water management expert from the CAREC Branch – Koylubaev Bakir.
