The issues of sustainable development of aviation and environmental protection were discussed during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Nysanbayev and the Director of the European and North Atlantic Bureau of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Mr. Nicolas Rallo.

“The issues of sustainable development of aviation and environmental protection are of great importance to us, and we value the role of ICAO in setting global standards and promoting international cooperation.

We are grateful to ICAO for its support in environmental sustainability and the development of the aviation industry in Kazakhstan and are interested in effective cooperation to implement our environmental goals,” the Minister noted.

Kazakhstan is actively working on the integration of international ICAO standards to reduce the carbon footprint in the aviation industry. One of the key areas is our country’s participation in the Mechanisms for Offsetting and Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions in International Aviation, which allows offsetting carbon emissions for international aviation.

It is worth noting that ICAO provides technical assistance and conducts training programs on emissions control and the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies. These trainings are aimed at developing the competencies of local specialists and helping Kazakhstan to adapt advanced international practices and standards in the field of ecology in the aviation industry. This cooperation also includes support for research and development aimed at modernizing the aircraft fleet, which is important for improving the overall environmental sustainability of the country.

Also, thanks to its membership in ICAO, Kazakhstan has the opportunity to cooperate with other member states of the Organization and use this platform to exchange experiences and apply best practices aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in aviation. With the support of ICAO, Kazakhstan can take part in regional projects to develop “green” aviation in Central Asian countries.

At the end of the meeting, E. Nysanbayev expressed hope for joint fruitful cooperation with ICAO on environmental protection and the introduction of sustainable technologies in the Central Asian region.
