Bishkek, 09.08.24. /Urmat Kenzhesariev – Kabar/. Seasons have shifted in Kyrgyzstan, there is less winter, more spring and summer. This was stated at a press conference at the Kabar agency by Olga Strizhanzeva, head of the laboratory of surface water resources of the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.

“When it comes to climate change, they say that the temperature is rising and precipitation is decreasing. This is a cliche that is not confirmed. Yes, there is an average annual increase in temperature. All weather stations in Kyrgyzstan, and there are more than 30 of them, confirm this. But when we start to consider how the air temperature changes during the year, it turns out that the increase does not occur simultaneously. Winters have become warmer over the past 30 years, the temperature in March has changed significantly, it has become warmer. Previously, it was considered almost a winter month, especially in the highlands, but now it has become quite spring-like. The annual change in temperature affects the flow of river water. Our seasons have shifted, there is less winter, more spring and summer. Snow cover gives us as much water as we need in the summer,” explained Strizhanzeva.
