The Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed two grant agreements totaling US$71 million. The documents were signed by Tajikistan Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda and ADB Country Director Shanny Campbell.

The first grant, worth US$50 million, is aimed at improving the business climate in Tajikistan. It includes digitalization, reforms to increase exports, improved infrastructure management, and increased financial transparency. It also provides support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adapting to climate change.

A second grant of $21 million will be used to replace Unit 4 at the Golovnaya hydroelectric power station, which failed in 2019. The upgrade is expected to increase the hydroelectric power station’s installed capacity from 240 megawatts in 2012 to 274 megawatts by 2026. Since Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, the bank has provided the country with more than $2.6 billion in support, including over $2 billion in grants.

These funds have been used to develop transport and energy infrastructure, health care, education, agriculture, and other key sectors of the economy.
