The USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity, together with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, continue to actively promote the Nexus Game in Central Asia. Thus, two trainings were held in August: on August 6 in Almaty (Kazakhstan) for representatives of American Councils and on August 9 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) as part of the training on water diplomacy organized by the Erasmus + HWCA project.

Both groups of participants got acquainted with the Nexus approach through an interactive simulation, where they mastered the principles of managing water, energy and food resources for the sustainable development of the region. The participants of the trainings tried on the roles of prime ministers and ministers of countries located upstream and downstream, which allowed them to work on the development of their states, conclude mutually beneficial deals and compromise. Issues of management of transboundary water bodies were also discussed and the role of water diplomacy in resolving controversial points was emphasized.

It should be emphasized that during the training in Almaty, representatives of American Councils were presented with instructions on how to conduct a Nexus game, which will later be used as part of the regional C5+ONE English language training program sponsored by the US Department of State.
