The number of dead seals washed up on the Caspian coast continues to increase. From October 24 to 29, employees of the Zhaiyk-Caspian Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate, together with representatives of the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, discovered 289 carcasses of dead seals during monitoring of the Caspian coast.
According to the Fisheries Inspectorate, monitoring of the Caspian Sea coastal zone continues.
Representatives of the inspection, the local executive body (LEB), the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, and the branch of the Republican Association of Fisheries and Aquaculture Qazaq balyk quickly arrived at the scene. The reasons for the seals’ death will be known after the relevant laboratory tests, the department reports.
Researcher at the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology Zhazira Sydykova said that since the end of September, the institute’s employees have been in Mangistau and monitoring the coastal zone in the west of the Tyub-Karagan Peninsula. The scientists’ task is to determine what is killing the Caspian seal.
The expedition members inspect the coast daily (between Bautino and Fort Shevchenko, and further south), observe the sea area, and look for dead seals in the water.
During the period from October 24 to 29, 289 carcasses of dead seals were found during monitoring of the Caspian Sea coast. Biological samples (fangs, claws, stomachs, tissues of internal organs) were taken from the animals to determine their age and causes of death. We will be able to report the causes of death only after conducting appropriate laboratory tests, said Zhazira Sydykova.
Earlier it was reported that 151 seal carcasses washed ashore in the area of the village of Bautino .
On the beach in the Fort Shevchenko area, a local blogger discovered the carcasses of three seals.
