On 17 April 2024, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe in collaboration with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources conducted a half-day event dedicated to the Kafirnighan River Basin Council’s 4th meeting. The meeting brought together 46 participants (9 females) from water management organizations, scientific institutions, and young water professionals’ network.

Participants shared updates on water sector reform in Tajikistan, focusing on its directions, implementation process, and new executive structure tasked to manage water resources in the country. They discussed key activities and achievements in the Kafirnighan basin zone, the integration of the basin’s activities into regional economic and social development initiatives, and a comprehensive plan for the sustainability of the urban water supply system in Dushanbe.

This activity is part of the Programme Office’s ongoing efforts to support the Government of Tajikistan in implementing the water sector reform programme. It is also in line with OSCE’s commitments in the area of the water sector.
