Representatives of the Turkmen State University named after Makhtumkuli, the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a video conference with teachers of universities of the Federal Republic of Somalia on December 23 on the topic of environmental protection and water diplomacy. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

According to the source, the meeting included reports on climate change, rational use of natural resources and water diplomacy.

Head of the Department of Ecology at Makhtumkuli Tomsk State University Sheker Ashyrmyradova presented a report on the role of higher education and international cooperation in adaptation to climate change in Central Asia, emphasizing the importance of training specialists to solve these problems.

Head of the Department of Hydrometeorology Gapurjan Khamraev spoke about the movement of sand massifs in Western Turkmenistan, noting the importance of research into relief and exodynamic processes for the rational use of the region’s resources.

The source noted that Somalia presented reports on current environmental issues. Dr. Sherif Osman from Mogadishu University spoke about the challenges and opportunities of the country’s water diplomacy.

Abdilatif Hussein Omar from the National University of Somalia touched on the topic of joint efforts in protecting the environment. Dr. Abdirahman Ismail Dakane presented the Juba-Shabbel water management approach as a key to sustainable development. Muhammad Okash from SIMAD University highlighted the contribution of higher education in the fight against climate change.
