At a meeting of the Turkmen government on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov voiced a number of proposals in order to strengthen cooperation with the UN in the field of sustainable development and the practical implementation of international initiatives of Turkmenistan.
On April 15-19 this year, the first ever Sustainable Development Week of the UN General Assembly, which was announced by the President of the UN GA at COP28, will be held at the UN headquarters in New York. As part of the Week on April 17, a High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Transport will be held, to participate in which it is proposed to send a delegation of Turkmenistan, which is consistently promoting this agenda in the international arena.
In order to highlight our country’s efforts to develop transport links, achievements and initiatives in this area and contribute to the development of the UN Program for the Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026-2035, it is proposed, on April 16, at the UN building to hold a ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport, created by Turkmenistan.
It is also proposed to send a delegation of Turkmenistan on a working visit to New York in April to participate in the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development. Within its framework, it is proposed, on April 23, to organize a side event “Ministerial Dialogue on Financing the SDGs” on issues of transport and energy connectivity.
And in May-June of this year, it is proposed to hold an international meeting of experts in the field of sustainable energy at the UN headquarters using video communication. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the Foreign Ministry to continue working in this direction.
