The Azerbaijan National NGO Pavilion at COP29 hosted the event “Driving Climate Finance: Enhancing Transparency and Empowering NGOs,” organized by Ecomed PU and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). The event featured a series of presentations, and a panel discussion focused on accountability and the role of NGOs in climate finance.
Moderated by Aynur Rahimli, the session includes insights from experts like Dr Aleksey Kokorin and Dilovarsho Dustzoda on climate finance engagement and transparency initiatives. The panel further explores how global economic strategies can draw interest and investment from both public and private sectors, emphasizing the crucial intersection of sustainable development and community resilience in climate action.
The ReCATH Manager, Dilovarsho Dustzoda, noted that the ReCATH initiative aims to enhance climate change transparency and mobilize climate finance across Central Asia by establishing collaborative frameworks through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). A recent MoU was signed on June 26, 2024, between ReCATH and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Climate Finance Center. This agreement signifies a commitment to resource mobilization and the implementation of joint projects targeting climate action transparency. ReCATH plans to extend similar MoUs with four additional Central Asian countries, fostering regional cooperation in addressing climate change challenges effectively and ensuring accountability in climate finance.
