This proposal is included in the draft Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the State Program for the Implementation of the Strategy “Uzbekistan-2030” in the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy”.

According to the document, a modern irrigation system will be created, aimed at the efficient use of rain and waste water, as well as the introduction of water-saving technologies. The system is planned to be implemented in 64 mahallas of 32 cities.

Implementation mechanism

According to the project, technical and hygienic standards for the use of rainwater and wastewater will be developed. As an experiment, it is planned to test the collection of rainwater in multi-story buildings with an area of more than 500 square meters, new buildings and social facilities. Industrial and manufacturing enterprises will also be equipped with systems for the collection and efficient use of rainwater and wastewater.

In addition, the modern system will be used to water the trees and shrubs planted in green areas (Green Gardens, Green Public Parks and Green Sidewalks) and in areas adjacent to apartment buildings created within the framework of the Yaşil Makon project.

Advantages

Rainwater, which has a neutral balance of acids and alkalis, rich in microelements and oxygen, will be collected from the roofs of houses in plastic containers. The tanks will be placed underground to store water for a long time. The water will then be directed to the seedlings through a drip irrigation system using pumps. Each house will be able to collect 20-40 tons of rainwater per year, which will provide water for 30 to 60 trees.

International experience

Currently, a system of efficient use of rainwater has been established in a number of foreign countries. In particular, Turkey has established a procedure for collecting rainwater for multi-story buildings with an area of over 2,000 square meters and for newly constructed buildings. At Frankfurt Airport in Germany, collected rainwater allows irrigating 60 percent of the airport’s green area and replenishing drinking water.

In addition, rainwater is widely used for irrigation in India.

Expected results

A modern irrigation system will significantly increase the amount of “green spaces” in the country and maintain them in a sustainable state.
In addition, the adoption of measures to clean and reuse wastewater and waste used in agriculture, industry and household purposes will, in turn, increase the efficiency of water use.
